Research conducted by Flora Fauna Nusantara (FFN) at Rowobendo Resort, Alas Purwo National Park, documented diverse beetle communities, including species that indicate relatively well-preserved forest ecosystems.
Study of Coleoptera Diversity in Rowobendo Resort, Alas Purwo National Park
Flora Fauna Nusantara (FFN) conducted an insect biodiversity study in the Rowobendo Resort area of Alas Purwo National Park in 2022. The research aimed to document insect diversity as part of biodiversity conservation and ecosystem monitoring efforts within the national park area.
Rowobendo Resort represents an important transition zone connecting coastal forest ecosystems and savanna habitats, creating diverse environmental conditions that support various insect communities. Sampling activities were carried out using several collection methods, including pitfall traps, sticky traps, and beating trays for Coleoptera (beetles).
The study revealed relatively high insect diversity, particularly from the Coleoptera group.
Coleoptera (Beetle) Diversity
The research documented 20 beetle species distributed across different vegetation types within the Rowobendo Resort area. This diversity reflects the ecological complexity of transition habitats that support various functional roles, including decomposers and predators.
Recorded Coleoptera species included:
- Nisotra sp.1
- Nisotra sp.2
- Theopea louwerensi
- Hypasis sp.
- Galerucinae gen. sp.
- Aulacophora indica
- Euchlora pulchripes
- Onitis phartopus
- Liatongus venator
- Onthophagus trituber
- Colpodes sp.
- Pheropsophus occipitalis
- Verania lineata
- Chilomenes sexmaculata
- Coccinella repanda
- Cryptorhynchinae gen. sp.1
- Cryptorhynchinae gen. sp.2
- Pygoluciola sp.
- Chrysobothris militaris
- Ceropria induta
💡 Interesting Insight
One of the interesting species documented during the research was Pygoluciola sp., a group of fireflies known to be highly sensitive to environmental disturbances such as light pollution and chemical contamination. The presence of fireflies within the area suggests that the Rowobendo ecosystem remains relatively natural and environmentally stable.

Pygoluciola sp.
The findings demonstrate that the ecosystem of Rowobendo Resort continues to support diverse insect communities with important ecological functions. This biodiversity provides valuable information regarding habitat quality and contributes to future conservation efforts within Alas Purwo National Park.
